Need a Job? 10,000 Movie Gigs in 6 Months

Even though the Plymouth Rock Studios projects seems to have hit a snag, the current Hollywood situation in Boston is rosy. 10,000 actors were put to work in the last six months in set-in-Mass flicks such as Tom Cruise's Knight and Day and Ben Affleck's The Town.

Tom Cruise Loves You (and the rest of Boston)

As most of you know, Tom Cruise has been in Beantown filming Knight and Day with Cameron Diaz and the fans have shown some affection towards the superstar. Check out the below video of Cruise in front of the Blue Wave.

Apparently, the feeling is mutual. He's enjoyed his time so much that he has written the people of Boston a thank you letter for their consideration and cooperation.

From the Blog on TomCruise.com

To the wonderful people of Boston,

My family and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your warmth and hospitality during our incredible stay here. We absolutely love Boston and will treasure our memories of the freedom trail, the Duck Tours, the museums, restaurants, gorgeous parks and, of course, our unforgettable runs around the St. Charles River. It was an autumn to remember!

On behalf of the cast and crew of ‘Knight & Day’ we thank you for being so accommodating, patient and understanding throughout our filming. By lending us the beauty of your city you’ve made this film something truly special. Words can only begin to express our appreciation.

I’d like to give a very special ‘shout-out’ to our local crew who were impeccable. It was a great pleasure working with you.

We wish for you a very happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

Warmly,

Tom Cruise

Another Boston Movie Opens in Theatres!

Cameron Diaz has been in Boston lately for the filming of an upcoming movie entitled Knight & Day with Tom Cruise. But today, her movie The Box debuts in theaters nationwide and it too was filmed here in Massachusetts. We actually pass the Boston Public Library on our Theatre-on-Wheels bus tour, one the the filming locations in the flick. This suspense thriller is directed by Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) so you know it's gonna be twisted. Like I said, The Box opens today, so check it out!

"The Town" Filming Near Downtown Crossing!

Thanks to my friend Ian and his awesome tip, I have these pictures of Ben Affleck's movie The Town filming a scene tonight. Believe it or not, the movie trucks are lined up right outside our Boston Movie Tours office on Hamilton Place. There are lights, cameras and action all taking place at the Dunkin Donuts tonight on Tremont Street where I get my "pre-tour" coffee!

I took these pictures and am told by a police officer that filming will continue until at least midnight tonight. And you'll see a friendly security guard named Shea down below - he is currently stationed outside my office.

Ben Affleck's Bullet!

Check this out Ben Affleck fans! While he was shooting The Town around Fenway Park last month, Ben Affleck actually shot this too! This is a blank that Affleck fired on set for the upcoming flick. It's basically 1.5 inches long and really cool to have in your hand.

Now I don't know much about real guns/fake bullets, I'm not the shoot 'em up type. But I was told by my insider at Fenway that there is a flare when these are fired. The flare melts the tip of the blank. Inside a real bullet there would be gunpowder in the tip, but not in these.

Anyway check out these photos of my hand and this little nugget of Affleck memorabilia. Cool, right?! And check back soon because I am expecting some behind the scenes footage from the same day that this little guy was used.

Wheel of Boston!!!

Starting last night, there will be three weeks of Wheel of Boston on CBS @ 7pm, also known as Wheel of Fortune! Pat Sajak and Vanna White were in town with the Wheel crew for taping this past Labor Day week and the three weeks of shows that were shot have begun airing.
Background footage that you can see behind the contestants as they spin the wheel was partially filmed along our Boston Movie Tours. You'll see the Boston Common, Public Garden and even Acorn Street (used in the original Thomas Crown Affair). And along the same lines, the show was actually filmed at the Boston Convention Center (another tour highlight).

I'm told that the three weeks of shows are broken up into different Boston themes. This week is a historical "spin" on the puzzles and on the final week there will be a charity show featuring Boston Celtics Captain Paul Pierce... and that's "The Truth"!
