Boston's Boondock Premiere!

Just one week ago, writer/director Troy Duffy watched Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day with a crowd for the first time. He said that he had been waiting because he wanted to watch it here in Boston among the real Boondock fans! He and the cast including Bob Marley, Billy Connolly, Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus were all in Boston on October 19th for the advanced fan screening of the new flick.Though the majority of the sequel was actually filmed in Toronto, Boston makes its presence felt in the movie. And with Troy Duffy's New England roots, Boston is a very special place for him to screen a movie that has basically been ten years in the making. There is a clip here (click the image) with some fan reviews and cast interviews from the premiere. Everybody loved it!!! And unlike the original, (which only opened in five theaters) Boondock Saints II opens nationwide this Friday October 30th.

Drinking with George!

I saw George Wendt do an interview for his book on ESPN this past week. He actually did part of the interview as Bob Swerski from his famous Superfans skit on SNL. But not only that, he did it while talking to his idol Coach Mike Ditka. There also were some Norm questions and references to Cheers'. Drinking with George: A Barstool Professional's Guide to Beer is published by Simon Spotlight Entertainment and is available. I know we're Movie and TV People here, but the book sounds great!

Boston Movie Tours - New Location!

For the first time ever, Boston Movie Tours ended at a new location here in town! Kinda. The last stop on the tour is always Cheers' where everybody knows your name... but these days, that little area around the bar is actually known as Eddie Doyle Square.

For those of you who don't know that name, Eddie Doyle is actually the inspiration for the character Sam Malone played by Ted Danson. Doyle worked at the Cheers' pub long enough to have worked at it while it still held the name Bull and Finch. He was semi-recently laid-off from the pub but has been doing various charity events in the area. The dedication ceremony took place this past Wednesday on Beacon Street and now the guy who knew everybody's name will have has name remembered for a long time to come.

Watch Mel Gibson's Edge of Darkness Trailer - Made in Boston

Over the last year, Mel Gibson was seen around town filming the thriller, Edge of Darkness.

Originally Robert De Niro was supposed to play a part in the movie. His character was replaced by Ray Winstone. Winstone is very familiar with Boston as he played Jack Nicholson's henchman in The Departed.

The movie is due out in January of 2010. Check out the trailer.

Four Hours of Ben Affleck - Filming Today

I was flying cross country yesterday so got caught up with a couple of movies that by chance, featured Ben Affleck. Today, movie location hunter, Bob Carr tells us Affleck is filming in his neighborhood. So yes, Affleck is in my head today and I am halfway expecting to bump into him randomly today at some 7-11.

Filming Today in Boston

Affleck’s latest movie, The Town is filming today on the corner of Bartlett Street and Sullivan Street in Charlestown. For some reason, filmmakers like this block. This is also the area of Tim Robbin’s house in Mystic River as well as the house where the “shoot-him in the knee” scene from The Departed was shot.

Recent Affleck Movies on DVD

State of Play – Affleck co-stars as a Congressman with Russell Crowe in this political thriller. Definitely give this film a two thumbs up as it had plenty of twists. Both Crowe and Affleck gave very good performances.

Smokin’ Aces – Affleck plays a bail bondsman in this shoot em up with Jeremy Piven. Too bad someone didn’t include the film reels in the explosion scenes. Although entertaining, not a great movie.

The Unprotected Premieres Monday

I know it’s Halloween time so here is something scary to watch if you are worried about someone stealing your identity or hacking into your company’s credit card database. Echoing the gritty, fast-paced, dramatic style of The Wire and 24, The Unprotected "webisodic" series highlights real world security threats that companies face every day.

The Unprotected is the first independant film project developed by Boston area company Application Security. I am also involved with the series and company from a marketing perspective.

The five-part web series premieres on Monday but you can get a sneak peak of it now.

New Boston Movie on DVD

We've been giving away posters and trinkets for this movie on our tours all summer long and its finally out on DVD. Romantic comedy fans can now own or rent The Proposal starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock!

For those out there who have not yet seen it, the movie is set in Alaska but was actually filmed all over Massachusetts and partially in Boston! That's right! That's our beautiful landscape behind the action in The Proposal. The scenes where The Colden Books office was in the movie were actually filmed on Franklin Street here in Boston and then recreated at the Walt Disney Studio in California.

And the cast is actually filled with big names... Craig T. Nelson, Betty White, Mary Steenburgen, and the Daily Show's Aasif Mandvi. Check it out everyone!

Zakim Bridge, Here Comes Tom Cruise

If you are planning on using the Zakim Bridge on Sunday October 11th, expect a couple of delays. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz will be shooting their new movie, Wichita between 3 pm and 5 pm and you can bet there will be some rubber necking.

The Zakim Bridge was first used in the Boston movie Spartan and was also highlighted in The Departed. In another Tom Cruise movie, War of the Worlds, the Zakim bridge was the last thing standing after Boston was attacked by aliens.

Boondock Saints Coming to Boston!

Awesome movie fans rejoice! Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day will be premiering at the end of this month on October 30th. It's been ten years since the original Boondock Saints was released and started becoming a cult classic. Both were written and directed by Troy Duffy and are set in Boston. More filming for the new movie happened in Toronto whereas the original included a lot of Boston. I plan on finding out more about this and if All Saints Day will have the same Boston-feel that the original had.

When will I be finding out??? Glad you asked, about three weeks from now when Boston Movie Tours will have a chance to ask some questions from the cast and crew here in town! So this is also our chance to find out what questions you want answered!!! I'm told Troy Duffy, Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery, Billy Connolly, Clifton Collins Jr. (Star Trek), and Julie Benz (Dexter) will be there to field questions and promote the release of B.S.II.

Send me an email daspro@bostonmovietours.net with any questions you might have and I'll see what I can do. If you're itching to watch a trailer of the movie you can find one here Boondockfans.com.

Matt Damon on Entourage

I was listening to an interview this morning with always funny Jeremy Piven who let it out that the Boston connection on Entourage continues this Sunday. Boston area local Matt Damon will be making a cameo along with Lebron James.

Earlier this year, the Patriots Tom Brady appeared on an episode along with executive producer and Boston local Mark Wahlberg.

Check out this hilarious trailer below.
