Celebrities in the Hub!

The Boston area has been a popular scene lately according to The Boston Herald’s Inside Track. “Good Will Hunting’s” Robin Williams has been spotted eating at the Oceanaire and at Finale. The runner-up cutie David Archuleta from American Idol was eating Japanese food at Samba in Framingham. The dreamy Donnie Wahlberg was seen eating at Limoncello’s in the North End. Friendly Mel Gibson who is here filming the movie “Edge of Darkness” was able to take pictures with fans while eating at Abe & Louie’s. A hungry Hollywood bunch we have here in the Hub.

Email Boston Movie Tours with your photo’s of celebrities’ around Hollywood East. groups@bostonmovietours.net

The inside Track got wind that Boston’s The Barking Crab may appear in an episode of Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel.

If anyone has $15.9 million hanging around you may be the high bidder for Nicolas Cage’s Rhode Island home. I guess the “National Treasure” star is in need of a new Boston Movie. It has also been reported by TMZ that he is also selling other homes that he own is New Orleans and California. He also sold his yacht recently. Nicolas we will welcome you with open arms here in Bean Town.

New Kids on the Block in Boston!

Friday September 26, 2008 was
New Kids on The Block Day in Boston

After 15 years away from the lime light NKOTB reunites in Boston! Boston Movie Tours Co-founder Rachel Coveney was at City Hall for the induction of New Kids On The Block Day. Speakers Mayor Menino and Councilor John Tobin didn’t really have to introduce these 5 guys. After 15 years these 5 guys still have the “Right Stuff.” Women in their 30’s still get giggly and flushed in the face.

Donnie Walhberg : Real Men Cry (2008) and Rightous Kill (2008)
Joey McIntyre: On Broadway (2008)

“The concert was awesome” one concert goer said. She also went on to say “what a surprise it was to see Paul Pierce on stage with all them”. Probably a favor to Donnie Walberg since he went to all the Celtic’s games cheering courtside.

Let’s not forget Natasha Bedingfield! She opened for NKOTB and thanked them. This goes to show you how big the New Kids still are. Bedingfield is a huge superstar and thanked the New Kids on stage.

We will probably see NKOTB back here in the HUB soon. They keep getting rave reviews and the demand is certainly still there! See you next time New Kids!

Edge of Darkness Causes Mass Pike Traffic

When film crews shoot in busy areas here in Boston, they generally do it off hours so the general public is not inconvenienced. It looks like someone missed that memo.

As reported in Hollywood in the Hub last week, the new Mel Gibson movie, Edge of Darkness was shot in the Mass Pike area today. The filming took place around the Route 30 on-ramp in Weston. However, filming occurred during rush hour increasing traffic and angering numerous commuters. I hope some rubberneckers at least got a glimpse of Mel.

According to WBZ Boston, a statement was issued by the Mass Pike.

"We apologize to the commuters who were stuck in this morning's quagmire near
the Weston interchange. In hindsight, we should not have allowed the filming to
take place during the morning rush hour. In addition, work reconfiguring the
lanes at the Weston interchange compounded the problem and should have been
stopped when the backups began. Again, apologies all around. It won't happen
again."

Mark Wahlberg Says Hello to Your Mother

First it was Sarah Silverman’s I’m F**ing Matt Damon. Now another local Boston boy, Mark Wahlberg is sizzling on YouTube for his Saturday Night Live skit.

After SNL’s Andy Samberg made fun of Wahlberg for talking to plants in his recent movie, The Happening, Wahlberg went on Jimmy Kimmel and lambasted Samberg threatening to break his nose. The Kimmel video has been downloaded over a half million times on Youtube.

Wahlberg then appeared in an SNL skit the following week making fun of the whole situation while coining a new catchphrase, "Say hello to your mother for me."

Pretty funny stuff. Check out the timeline below.

Knowing with Nicolas Cage Films on Charles River

Here’s an upcoming Boston movie, Australian style starring Nicolas Cage. The Knowing is an end-of-the-world suspense/thriller. Cage plays a teacher who opens a time capsule from 50 years ago and uncovers some chilling predictions that are about to come true.

Cage spent much of the time filming Knowing in Australia but the movie takes place in the Boston area. To our knowledge, this is the first movie that Australia stands in for the Boston area.

With the most of the filming wrapped up in Australia, the filmmakers came to Boston for some establishing shots recently. Earlier, this month, a casting call went out to area rowers for a rowing scene on the Charles River. This typical establishing shot was made popular with another Boston Movie, The River Wild.

Look for Knowing to hit theaters in March of 2009.
