On Broadway World Premiere

Just got back from the sold out world premiere of On Broadway at the Boston Independent Film Festival. Some of the actors including Robert Wahlberg and writer/director Dave McLaughlin were in attendance and answered some Q & A. I got a chance to chat briefly with Dave after the movie and I could tell he was beaming with joy. After all, the movie did get a standing ovation at the end.

On Broadway is about a Boston playwright played by Joseph McIntyre (New Kids on the Block) who stages a play at local pub. The story simmers a little bit at the beginning before completely sucking you in. On Broadway is heartfelt, inspiring, warm and funny with some terrific dialog. And it has a ton of Dunkin Donuts, MBTA and Red Sox references to give it the proper Boston flavor.

For an independent movie, it has a pretty good cast including McIntyre, Eliza Dushku (Tru Calling), Will Arnett (Blades of Glory), Mike O'Malley (Yes Dear) and Robert Wahlberg.

So where can you see it you may wonder? Well, according to McLaughlin, On Broadway is off to the independent film festival circuit in hopes of getting picked up by a major studio for wider distribution. So the answer is probably sometime in the next six months either on DVD or at the theaters.

Starz Filming Around Boston

The Starz movie channel was on location in Boston on Thursday doing a behind-the scenes segment on filming locations used in Starz/Encore movies.

Boston Movie Tours assisted with the location and scouting process as the producers filmed in Beacon Hill and the waterfront area.

Starz officially became the 1st group to ever ask about filming locations from Bert Reynolds' Fuzz, Richard Dreyfuss' Once Around and Gene Wilder's Hanky Panky all in the same breathe. Not that's going deep into the vault of Boston filming!

Definitely a fun day! The Theater-on-Wheels bus will be highlighted in Into the Scene to air this summer.

Check for more details on Friday.

21 Reasons for Traffic

The movie 21 threw a wrench into traffic this past Sunday. The entire Mass Ave Bridge was closed for filming of this new Kevin Spacey flick about MIT students who find a system for beating the odds in Vegas.

We got close enough to witness some of the helicopters filming the scene from the air. It is not every day that a helicopter flies about 200 feet over the water.

Apparently, the lead actor Jim Sturgess is riding a bike across the bridge.

Shopping or Gambling? 21 Hits Copley Mall

While walking through the Copley Mall, our favorite Boston Movie Tours intern Lephan came across the set of the Kevin Spacey gambling flick 21 filming in front of Louis Vuitton.

After talking to a few of the crew members, star Jim Sturgess took a minute to say hello and take a pic w Lephan. We of cour se invited him on a tour so hopefully he'll take us up on that in the future.

21 Filming at Harvard Medical School

Yesterday, 21 with Kevin Spacey and Lawrence Fishburne took a little trip down to the Longwood Ave area to do some filming. According to the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe, Sony offical named the movie 21 this past Monday. The movie is loosely based on the true story of how bunch of MIT students beat the system in Vegas.

We got the call from movie buff Ken in the morning and headed down to the area in the afternoon. According to one of the crew members, The Massachusetts College of Art served as the "Holding Area." That is basically where the extras and crew gather for lunch and where they hang out awaiting filming to start.

The actual filming took place in front of Harvard Medical School on Longwood Ave. Or at least that is where all the cameras were set up.
